SOMA Coaching℠ uses methods of philosophical counseling to address a range of physical and emotional symptoms that can arise as a result of a disregulated nervous system, often instigated by early or subsequent trauma or chronic stress and the contradictions and false beliefs such experiences tend to promote. It is in no way therapeutic and makes no thereapeutic claims, nor should it be used to treat underlying causes that may warrant medical attention.

PhilosophyCenter | LifeStudy℠ Overview

PhilosophyCenter | SOMA Coaching℠ SOMA Coaching℠ is a unique individual coaching program that draws upon the ancient wisdom of Stoicism and Taoist philosophy to provide clients with tools they can use to begin calming the symptoms of a disregulated nervous system and over time, reestablish and normalize the mind and body's normal parasympathetic state. This life-changing transition is accomplished through the use of proven philosophical practices of detachment, allowing, and witnessing along with specific tools that have been shown to shift the nervous system from the sympathetic fight-flight-freeze state back to the normal parasympathetic state of present awareness and ease.

Topics covered in SOMA Coaching℠ include:

  • square breathing
  • basic polyvagal theory as a tool for self-awareness
  • seeing through the "blue meanies" of doom thinking
  • anchoring with a personal "switch word" mantra
  • the Taoist practice of actionless action (wu wei)
  • doing one thing at a time
  • the essential practice of allowing (nonresistance)
  • reassuring the distressed brain and nervous system

This offering is designed expressly to help those who are struggling with the many, diverse, and often intense symptoms of a disregulated nervous system to transcend the chronic sense of urgency, anxiety, powerlessness, and despair in those cases where the client has recognized or strongly suspects no other underlying cause. SOMA Coaching℠ is most likely to be effective in cases where such causes have been ruled out by a qualified healthcare provider. While SOMA Coaching cannot diagnose or treat medical conditions that may produce such symptoms, there is a growing body of evidence that points to disregulation of the nervous system as a condition in itself that can make living a normal life all but impossible. Addressing this directly can restore a sense of ease, agency, and optimism in the client prepared to take responsibility for his or her distress and put the instruction into daily practice.

PhilosophyCenter | Benefits   SOMA Coaching℠ offers far-reaching benefits for living a grounded and creative life including:

  • proven support in helping the disregulated nervous system return to a regulated state
  • freedom from the mind's fear-based projections
  • experience of the deep sense of agency that arises when we learn to stop reacting and resisting
  • improvements in peace of mind, relationships, sleep, digestion, and all areas that are adversely affected by a disregulated nervous system
